NSW: High-tech eyes in the sky to see fire and catch fire bugs

World-leading surveillance technology will be used to detect bushfires and catch arsonists
this summer.

24-hour motion-sensor cameras .. linked to a state-of-the-art computer system .. and
placed onto an observation tower .. can detect smoke and fires from many kilometres distance
.. and alert authorities.

New South Wales Premier MORRIS IEMMA and Emergency Services Minister NATHAN REES launched
Firecam yesterday.

The 50 thousand dollar system will be trialled in Sydney's northern bushland .. after
its installation in the Berowra Fire Observation Tower.

It can detect fires within an 11 kilometre range.
