Business Editors

BROOKFIELD, Wis.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 12, 2004

The Personix unit of Fiserv, Inc. (Nasdaq: FISV) has received the highest rating of participants in a 2003 study of best business practices conducted by Madison Advisors, a Texas-based consulting firm specializing in customer communication technologies.

Conducted annually, the Madison Advisors Best Practices Study measures business practices associated with the manufacturing and delivery of personalized documents such as statements, transaction summaries and checks for both print/mail and electronic (Web) delivery. Personix was one of 31 participants in the study, which included 17 in-house print facilities and 14 independent document service providers. The study captured over 250 data points from each participant to identify leading practices in 21 areas of document production.

Personix exceeded the overall average in 20 of the 21 measured areas and attained "Best Practice" scores, the highest mark possible, in eight areas:

-- Workflow

-- Hardware

-- Functionality

-- Service level agreements

-- Processes and procedures

-- Equipment utilization

-- Quality metrics

-- Financials

Todd Stine, Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Personix, said, "We're extremely pleased with these results. The analysis highlights our commitment to technology and to providing superior service to our clients."

Stine said Personix' overall score was the highest in the Madison Advisors Best Practice Survey. "The only measured area not exceeding the overall average was 'capacity utilization' and that was because of Personix' heavy equipment commitment to meeting client quarter-end schedules," he said.

Quoting from the study results, Stine said Personix scored well above the best practice averages in the Software and Functionality areas, thanks to its unique, customer-focused solutions, job tracking system and the services it provides its customers through Web interfaces. Driving Personix' high score in the Financials category was the company's apparent willingness to reinvest in technology and systems to implement process improvements and the focus on printing as a core competency. Another plus was the ability to track and monitor quality throughout the production process.

"Personix is a leader in delivering high-volume personalized customer documents through laser printing and mailing, as well as electronic delivery," Stine said. "The disciplines that we have instilled into our production processes, employee training and reward programs are instrumental in our success not just in this study, but every day with our clients."
