Qld: Survey to gauge Seniors' fear of crime

A survey to assess how fearful senior citizens are of crime is to take place in Queensland.

Queensland Premier PETER BEATTIE announced the $65,000 Safe and Secure survey today
at the Ballycara Retirement Village in the northern Brisbane suburb of Scarborough.

The study will asses the level of fear of crime that exists in the elderly community.

Mr BEATTIE says the last survey of this kind was conducted in 1991.

He's denied that this is a political stunt one week short of the Redcliffe and Chatsworth
by-elections.

The survey results are due at the end of the year.
