QLD: Stoways taken to Villawood detention centre

BRISBANE, Dec 9 AAP - Two stowaways found on board a bulk carrier at a Queensland port
have been transferred to the Villawood Detention Centre in Sydney.

An Immigration spokesman said the men were found on the foreign vessel on Thursday
at the port of Bundaberg, 400km north of Brisbane.

They were taken off the ship and interviewed by department officers.

"They have been transferred into immigration detention at Villawood to be interviewed
further," he said.

"We just want to interview them to find out who they were, where they're from and why
they're here."

Another stowaway, who was interviewed by department officers on the ship, was allowed
to stay on board.

The spokesman said he had no information on the background of the three men, although
one report said they were believed to be of Middle Eastern origin.
