QLD:Qld house fires exceed 140 a month

New stats say Queensland has averaged more than 140 house fires a month since June
and the death count for 2011 is the one of the worst on record.

The Department of Community Safety says there's been more than 16 hundred house fires
this year and more than 980 since June 1.

The DCS statistics, which run until December 15, attribute 21 deaths to residential
structural fires.

But there have been six publicised house fire fatalities since, including the death
of KENJI SUDA at Runcorn on Tuesday, and the wife and three daughters of TV chef MATT
GOLINSKI on Monday morning.
