Vic; Two middle aged women found dead in submerged car

Two female bodies have been brought ashore from a submerged car found at Lakes Entrance
in eastern Victoria.

Police say the car, a Mitsubishi station wagon, was spotted by a charter boat operator
about 30 metres off-shore, near Bullock Island at Lakes Entrance.

Police search and rescue divers were called to check on the car and they confirmed
that there were two bodies inside.

Although yet to be positively identified, the two bodies are said to be those of two
women, one estimated to have been in her 50s and the other in her 60s.

A police spokesman says the bodies were recovered from the car after it was lifted
to shore by a crane this evening.

The spokesman says early indications are that the car crashed into the water late
last night or early this morning.

The car's bodywork shows no significant damage.

Police are investigating and post mortem examinations will be conducted on both bodies.
